Use the drop down links on the 'New Careers for Teachers' tab to view career alternatives in each of these sections.
The theory behind this section of future careers is that if you once loved teaching then a drastic career change may be a case of throwing the baby out with the bath water. This has plenty of appeal as existing teaching skills can be utilised, but in a fresh environment, hopefully one step removed from the pressures of the 21st Century school. There are lots of opportunities out there for teaching outside of the school environment, but obviously many teachers see them as an appealing proposition and this may lead to an extremely competitive market.
In this section we examine roles that still lie within the area of education, but do not involve teaching. This should take advantage of your knowledge of the education system, but offer a different challenge to the classroom.
There appears to be a wealth of opportunities for former teachers with the charitable sector although some may need the application of transferable skills. Common roles come in the form of fund raising, marketing and education, with the 3rd Sector site an excellent first port of call for jobs in this area.
If you really want to shake things up, you could perhaps leave teaching and enter the real world. Remember, regular workers also work hard and receive very few holidays, so the grass is not always greener. If you are determined to give it a go, then make the most of your transferable skills in your application.
Still nothing appeals? This section looks at the jobs that don't really fit into the other sections.
